 How interest is calculated and paid

  • Interest is calculated daily on your cash balance as at midnight (AET).

  • Accrued interest is paid by ANZ Bank into the settlement cash account opened by CMC Invest on your behalf on the first business day of each month.

  • If the applicable interest rate changes during the month, interest will accrue at the previous rate up to the date of the change, and at the new rate from that date onwards.

Additional information

CMC Markets Stockbroking Limited (CMC Invest) may elect to pass on a portion of the interest received on funds held in the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ Bank) cash account opened on your behalf (Cash Account), in accordance with the CMC Invest Terms and Conditions and the CMC Invest Financial Services Guide (available here).

Where CMC Invest has instructed ANZ Bank to pay a portion of the interest received on the balance of the Cash Account to you, the following will apply:

  1. interest received on the Cash Account will be based on an annual interest rate and calculated on a daily basis, based on the available bank balance of the Cash Account as at the end of each calendar day (in Sydney, New South Wales);

  1. the available cash balance of the Cash Account is generally displayed on the online service and does not include the proceeds of any unsettled sale transactions you may be entitled to;

  1. any accrued interest determined by CMC Invest to be payable will be paid by ANZ Bank into the Cash Account on the first business day of each calendar month;

  1. the annual interest rate determined by CMC Invest may be changed by CMC Invest at any time, at its discretion and without the prior notice. The applicable annual interest rate will generally be displayed on this webpage or on the online service. A change to the applicable interest rate will not constitute a variation of the agreement between you and CMC Invest, comprised of the CMC Invest Terms and Conditions and any applicable annexures (Agreement);

  1. the annual interest rate is applied on a tiered basis, where different rates apply to different portions of the bank balance in a Cash Account;

  1. if the applicable annual interest rate changes during a calendar month, interest will be determined using the previous interest rate up to the date of the change, and at the new annual interest rate on that date and for the remainder of the month;

  1. where either you or CMC Invest provides notice to terminate the Agreement, CMC Invest will instruct ANZ Bank to close the Cash Account as soon as reasonably practicable following receipt. ANZ Bank will pay the applicable interest to the Cash Account for that month up to and including the day before CMC Invest provides instructions to ANZ Bank. If CMC Invest provides instructions to ANZ Bank on a:

    a) business day during ANZ Bank’s business hours, ANZ Bank will pay the applicable interest to the Cash Account on that day; or

    b) business day after business hours or on a day that is not a business day, ANZ Bank will pay interest to that Cash Account on the next business day;

  1. once CMC Invest has provided ANZ Bank with the instructions described in paragraph 7, CMC Invest will have no further obligation to instruct ANZ Bank to allocate any interest to the Cash Account and you are not entitled to any additional interest on the Cash Account; and

  1. CMC Invest may determine at its discretion and with immediate effect to cease any future payments of interest to you.
