MetaTrader 5 (MT5)

MT5 access is currently available by request. To download MT5, you’ll first need to sign up for a live CMC Markets MT4 account and contact our Client Services team at support@cmcmarkets.com.au to request MT5 access.

Our Client Services team will then advise you on the next steps.

Yes. At this stage, you’ll need a live CMC Markets MT4 account, either FX Active or Standard, before you can request MT5 access. 

 If you only have a CMC Markets Platform account, you’ll need to open a live MT4 account first. Once your MT4 account is set up, contact our Client Services team at support@cmcmarkets.com.au to request MT5 access.

Our Client Services team will then advise you on the next steps.

You can apply for a live MT4 account directly from the CMC Markets website here. 

If you’ve created an MT4 demo account, log in and click "Open a Live Account" from the top right of the platform, or select "Apply Now" under "Live Trading".

If you only have a CMC Markets Platform account, you’ll need to apply for a separate MT4 account before requesting MT5 access.

Please note that you do not own, or have any interest in, the underlying assets when trading CFDs.

After you have contacted us to set up your MT5 account, you can follow the instructions below.  

For desktop:

1. Launch the MT5 software. 

2. Click on File on the top left of the platform. 

3. Select Login to Trade Account. 

4. Enter your account number and MT5 password. 

5. Select the server CMCMarkets-MT5-LIVE. 

6. Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to log into your MT5 account without any problems. 

For mobile: 

1. Install the MetaTrader 5 app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. 

2. Launch the Metatrader 5 app. 

3. Select “Settings” and click on “Trade Accounts”. 

4. Select the “+” sign on the top right and search CMC Markets from the search bar at the bottom of the screen. 

5. Select CMC Markets Plc and enter your account number and MT5 password. 

6. Select the server CMCMarkets-MT5-LIVE. 

7. Click Sign in at the bottom of your screen, and you are now successfully logged in. 

1. Access the Client Admin Portal (CMC Markets Platform) using the email address and password you used for your initial CMC Markets account details and application. 

2. Select your MT5 account under account selection.

3. Go to "Settings" and click on "Change Password." 

4. Create a new password that meets the requirements indicated on the portal. 

5. After successfully creating your password, you can download the MT5 trading platform via the "Download MT5" button at the top of the Client Admin Portal.

When you trade with us via MT5, you need one password to log in to the MT5 platform and another to log in to the CMC Markets Platform, also known as the Client Admin Portal. In the portal, you can quickly and easily fund your MT5 account, manage passwords, and view your account balance. You can also view open positions. 

Your password for the portal is the password you set on the account opening form, or your existing CMC Markets Platform password if you already have an account with us. 

Your MT5 password can be set within the portal.

The Client Admin Portal is the CMC Markets Platform where you manage your trading account. You can use it to fund your account, view your balance, manage your MT5 password and access account settings.

1. Launch the MT5 platform. The icon should be a shortcut on your desktop. The MT5 platform will open on your screen. 

2. In the "Navigator" section on the left side of the platform, you will see the account you initially logged in with. You can show or hide the Navigator window using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + N. 

3. Select (double-click) the account you want to access and enter the following information: 
   1. Login (your MT5 account number) 
   2. Your MT5 password 

4. You should now be logged in. You can verify your login in the "Journal" or by checking the icon in the status bar at the bottom.

If you already have a live MT5 account with CMC Markets and open another account, you do not need to download or install the MT5 platform again. Reinstalling MT5 may result in the loss of previously saved preferences.

Yes. You can sign up for a demo account to practise trading on MT5 with virtual funds before trading live. Once your demo account is set up, you’ll receive instructions on how to access MT5 and log in using your demo account details.

When you’re ready to trade live, you’ll need a live CMC Markets MT4 account and MT5 access enabled through an additional account.

In MT5, ongoing holding costs ("swap") are recorded while a position is open. Therefore, there may be a difference between the MT5 balance and the balance in the Client Admin Portal. To reconcile the values, simply add the current swap value to the MT5 balance, for example, MT5 balance + swap = balance in the Client Admin Portal. Once all positions are closed, the values will match.

You can fund your MT5 account through the CMC Markets Platform, also known as the Client Admin Portal on your PC or Mac. 

To access funding, log in to the Client Admin Portal using your CMC Markets account details, not your MT5 platform login details. The funding portal may also support two-factor authentication, or 2FA, for enabled accounts.

Once you’re logged in to the Client Admin Portal, select the funding or payments section and choose an available payment method, such as debit card, credit card, PayID, bank transfer or PayPal.

You can also create a quick link to the funding portal on your mobile device for easy access: 

• iOS Safari users: once the page has loaded, tap the share button at the bottom of the screen and select “Add to Home Screen”. 

• Android Chrome users: once the page has loaded, tap the menu icon in the top right of the browser and select “Add to Home Screen”.
