How do I apply for an account with CMC Markets?

Apply now for a demo or live CFD account with CMC Markets. Please note, you do not own, or have any interest in, the underlying assets.

Do I need to open a separate forex-trading account to trade forex with CMC Markets?

No. Our CFD accounts offer trading on forex, plus indices, commodities, shares and more.

How long does it take to process an application for a live account?

Our aim is to help you start trading as quickly as possible. However, the account opening process depends on how quickly you can provide us with the required supporting documents; on average the process takes a couple of days. Once you have submitted your documents, we will contact you within one business day.

What documents might I need to provide to support my application for a live account?

In order to complete your live account application, we require the following documents:

  1. Bank account statement - physical and electronic statements (pdf) are acceptable but screenshots are not.^

  2. A recent phone, utility, or internet bill as proof of your current address. Please note the address must match the address used on the application.^

  3. Government-issued photo identification (driver's license or passport).

^These documents must be dated within the last 3 months with full legal name and current residential address.

How do I upgrade my account from demo to live?

To apply for a live trading account, follow these steps:

Desktop: Log in to your demo account, select the ‘Open a Live Account’ button at the top of the screen and follow the on-screen instructions.

iPhone or iPad: Open the app and log in, then select the 'More' button (with the three dots), tap the ‘Open a Live Account’ button, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Android: Open the app and log in, then tap the three lines at the top of the screen, tap ‘Open a Live Account’, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Do I need to deposit funds to activate my account?

You don't need to deposit funds to 'activate' your account, but you'll need to fund your live account in order to place trades.

Once your application for a live account is successful, you can log in to your account after selecting the verification link that we send to your registered email address. However, you won't be able to place a trade until there are sufficient funds in your account to open a position.
