How do I fund my account?

You can fund your account using a valid payment card, online (open) banking, or by transferring funds through your bank account. We don't accept cheques or cash deposits, or American Express or Diners cards.

Please ensure that any payment you make to fund your account is from a card or account in your name. Payments from third-party sources will be rejected.

If you transfer funds to us from a bank outside the UK, additional charges may apply. Charges will be deducted from the payment amount and net proceeds credited to your trading account.

Any cards you wish to register to your account will need to be enrolled with 3D Secure (verified by Visa or MasterCard Secure Code) for payments to be successfully credited to your account. Please note that we only take deposit requests over the phone if your account is approaching margin call.

How much can I deposit with a card?

You can deposit up to $50,000 in a single transaction when using a credit or debit card to fund your account.

How much should I deposit?

We usually suggest adding $100 the first time you fund your account, as this should give you sufficient funds to place and maintain a trade.

For a CFD trade, if the minimum trade size for Gold is 0.4 units, that would require an estimated margin of approximately $26 USD (5% margin rate for retail clients) to open the trade if the price of Gold were $1,300. The holding cost to keep this trade open overnight would be approximately $0.04 USD, charged at 10pm (UK time) every night.

In this instance, the additional funds in your account would act as a buffer if the price of Gold were to move against you, as unrealised profits and losses are reflected in your account balance. Ensuring you have enough funds in your account to cover unrealised losses will mean your account balance won’t reach its close-out level in the event of adverse price movements.

In principle, you can deposit up to $50,000 per transaction when using a credit or debit card to fund your account, though your bank or card issuer may set limits below this amount. To find out if limits apply to deposits made via bank transfer, please consult your bank.

Do I need to deposit funds to activate my account?

You can sign into your account as soon as your application has been successful and you have clicked on the verification link sent to your registered email address. However, you won’t be able to place a trade unless there are sufficient funds in your account to open a position. If you prefer to test strategies in a risk-free environment, our free demo account will allow you to practise trading with virtual funds.

What are the Payments team's operating hours?

Our Payments team can be contacted by phone on (UK) +44 20 3003 8080 from 9am to 6pm (UK time), Monday to Friday. Emails to global@cmcmarkets.com will also be picked up during these hours. Bank transfers received after 6pm will be processed on the next business day. Card payments should be processed as normal outside these hours.

What happens if my bank card is lost, damaged or stolen?

f you lose or damage your bank card, or if it’s stolen, you should notify your bank immediately. Then please call us on (UK) +44 20 3003 8080, and we will remove the relevant card(s) from your account. Alternatively, you can remove your card(s) from your trading account yourself, if you wish.
