Walmart is a US multinational retailer that operates a chain of ‘hypermarkets’, a cross between a supermarket and department store. The company was founded in 1962 with headquarters in Arkansas, although it’s registered in Delaware. It has 10,500 retail stores worldwide across 24 countries, which are visited by approximately 220 million customers each week. The US accounts for around half of these figures. Walmart sells a wide range of products including food and beverages, homeware, health and beauty aids, electronics, garden items, pet supplies, and hardware. It is one of the world’s largest companies by revenue and market capitalisation. Walmart stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) indices.
