Upstart is a US artificial-intelligence (AI)-based consumer lending platform. It allows customers to access more affordable credit, providing loans while reducing the risk and cost of lending for banks. Using the platform, Upstart’s bank partners can offer higher approval rates and experience lower loss rates, with 67% of loans being fully automated without human involvement. To date, the company has dealt with more than $16.7bn of capital for 2.4 million customers. It offers unsecured, fixed-rate personal loans by analysing a customer’s previous education, employment, and credit history, to assess creditworthiness.
