SoftBank Group is a Japanese conglomerate holding company with headquarters in Tokyo. It was founded in 1981 and focuses on investment management, primarily investing in pre-IPO companies through its two separate Vision Funds, and companies within the e-commerce, energy, finance, and telecommunications industries. It’s the second largest publicly traded company in Japan by market capitalisation. Its 40% owned mobile and broadband service, SoftBank Corp, is the third-largest wireless carrier in Japan, with over 46 million subscribers in 2021. SoftBank has made several acquisitions over the years and currently owns the businesses WeWork, PayPay, and Arm Holdings. The company also has stakes in tech giants Alibaba and Amazon.
