Riot Blockchain is a US company that focuses on Bitcoin mining, cryptocurrency investment, and blockchain technology. Founded in 2000 with headquarters in Colorado, the company has acquired several businesses over the years. In particular, subsidiary Whinstone owns the largest mining facility in North America, as measured by its 300 MW in developed capacity. Riot was formerly known as BiOptix, a company that produced diagnostic machinery for the biotech industry, until shifting its focus to the cryptocurrency ecosystem in 2017. It’s one of the largest Bitcoin miners in the US in terms of production and is aiming to increase its Bitcoin mining hash rate and infrastructure capacity in the long-term in order to expand operations on a global level.
