Sainsbury’s is the second largest supermarket chain in the UK, with a market share of over 15% as of August 2021. The company was founded in 1869 and has headquarters in London. The holding company, J Sainsbury, is split into multiple divisions, including its supermarket division and Sainsbury’s Bank, which is a commercial bank formed out of a joint venture with Bank of Scotland. It also owns retail brands such as Argos, Habitat and Nectar. Sainsbury’s operates over 1,400 stores and has more than 10,000 employees across the UK.
