It was founded in 1995 by the merger of two utilities providers and has headquarters in Warrington, Cheshire, serving a population of more than seven million in the north-west region of England. United Utilities is responsible for waste and wastewater services, delivering 1.8 billion litres of water a day to more than 3 million homes and 200,000 businesses. The company also manages a network of reservoirs, treatment works, pumping stations, and water pipes and sewers. It operates more than 35 renewable energy facilities across the UK for biogas, solar, hydro and wind power, and is dedicated to becoming net zero carbon by 2030.
