Meta upgraded

Meta upgraded

JPMorgan has boosted Meta Platforms [META] to ‘overweight’ from ‘neutral’, citing potential upside from its artificial intelligence (AI) push, including the Muse AI agent and Meta Model API. Analyst Douglas Anmuth sees frontier models as central to Meta’s long-term product and monetisation pipeline. Separately, ARK Invest bought Meta shares while selling Alphabet [GOOGL], Seeking Alpha reported, representing a significant shift within its technology holdings.

Apple debuts foldable

Unveiled on Wednesday, the Duo, Apple’s [AAPL] first foldable iPhone, is priced at $1,999, reaching $3,199 for the top-spec model. The device, developed over almost a decade, folds out to a screen nearly as large as an iPad Mini. New CEO John Ternus called it a major redesign, saying it would “redefine the experience of using a foldable phone”.

TSMC sales spike

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co [TSM] reported a 53.3% increase in August sales to NT$514.8bn, as it struggles to keep pace with surging AI infrastructure demand. The chipmaker is building around 20 factories globally, compared with its previous record of four or five simultaneously. TSMC is also upgrading equipment, with High-NA EUV machines from ASML [ASML] set for mass production from 2030.

Nvidia-backed chipmaker soars on AI demand

MediaTek [2454:TW] reported a 44% surge in August sales to NT$64.2bn, boosted by its emerging AI chip business. The Taiwanese chipmaker plans to begin mass production of its first AI chip for a major US cloud provider in Q4, with analysts identifying Google as the customer. The business is helping offset weakness in Android smartphone demand. The firm has recently been backed by both Nvidia [NVDA] and Alphabet.

Three smaller-cap agentic AI platforms to watch

As agentic AI moves from experimentation towards widespread enterprise adoption, smaller-cap agentic AI platforms offer investors a potentially higher-growth alternative than larger platforms. On Foresight, Aureon unpacks the investment case for three names that are positioned to play a leading role in the development of the space: Appian [APPN], GitLab [GTLB] and Pegasystems [PEGA].

US AI spending drives investors to EMs

Big tech companies are borrowing so heavily for AI infrastructure that investors increasingly view some emerging-market (EM) peers as safer credit bets. SK Hynix [SKHY] bonds now yield just nine basis points more than Amazon [AMZN] debt, while EM corporate credit spreads are converging with US benchmarks. Bloomberg commented that this is indicative of how “boundaries between emerging- and developed-market risk are blurring”.

Has Atlassian survived the SaaSpocalypse?

Atlassian [TEAM] has been on a rollercoaster in 2026, hitting almost eight-year lows on fears agentic AI will decimate the SaaS sector. But solid earnings and signs the shift to agents can support Atlassian’s core business suggest the company has turned things around. Aureon weighs TEAM’s bull and bear cases, as analysts remain upbeat on its prospects.
