The next two weeks are the heart of earnings season with major companies reporting across a number of sectors with a particular focus on technology and Dow component companies. Expectations had been low a month ago but have recovered, but it remains to be seen if companies were overly pessimistic guiding low last quarter or not.
Results may also indicate if the capital flows we have been seeing back into risk markets may continue or not and if the fears that sent gold soaring to start the year were overblown.
Crude oil may also be active this week following the Big Doha meeting. The question is whether enough progress can be made to support a higher oil price or if we could see profit-taking against whatever comes out of the meeting.
