What do cryptocurrencies, nutrition and impact investing have in common? Alessandra Sollberger.
With nearly 10 years experience from her time spent at major firms such as Goldman Sachs, Blackstone and Mosaic Ventures, the entrepreneur and investor has a diverse range of interests.
After buying an early stake in Bitcoin in 2012, the Swiss investor later cashed in her winnings and founded a London-based nutritional supplements brand, Evermore Health.
Her entrepreneurial streak has only blossomed since, with Sollberger founding Top Tier Network, a global network of impact investors and entrepreneurs, in 2019.
However, the multipotentialite has never strayed too far from the investment landscape and regularly invests in the blockchain and biotech spaces through her holding firm, Maverick Group.
Here, Sollberger Takes 5 with Opto.
1: What’s your investment approach in a sentence?
Dive deep into the rabbit hole and then reconcile it for the bigger picture.
“Dive deep into the rabbit hole and then reconcile it for the bigger picture"
2: What’s the top mistake that investor’s make?
I would say becoming less objective about an opportunity … because implicitly a decision has already been made.
It's like, ‘oh, I'm really interested in this opportunity and now it’s just about finding positive evidence of that’, which you can always find. That's a mistake that I see a lot.
3: Where do you go for investment or business insights?
I really enjoy one-on-one conversations. I have a wide network of people who, like me, have a keen interest in various investment theories and opportunities.
I really, really enjoy swapping thoughts. I like having those discussions.
4: What’s the most memorable moment in your career so far?
Probably discovering my passion for entrepreneurship when I was just a child.
I only realised this when I was growing up because at 11 years old I started reselling my books and toys — I just loved it so much. I love the selling process.
Some years ago, I approached entrepreneurship more from a technology perspective and I remembered that.
I think it was an early realisation of how exciting and enjoyable it can be in a natural way.

5: What’s your top tip for your younger self?
I find that increasingly — and I’ve noticed this more in general life — being able to look at as many contradicting points of view as possible on one topic in one area becomes handy.
Especially when you’re trying to reconcile a complex picture or rebuild a puzzle.
